Message from Pathfinder Principal, Ms. Harris

We have been working hard with our neighboring schools to support our students transitioning to 1st grade. Students will automatically be enrolled at their neighborhood school in our district. You do not need to re-register your student, unless your family is moving.

Thank you for being part of our community at Pathfinder this year! We have enjoyed a great year with your students and your neighborhood school team are excited to meet you. If you have any questions or need any other information, please contact us.

The Pathfinder office will be open after school is out from June 18-23 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24 from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Pathfinder will be closed Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth. The office will be closed from June 25- August 17 and will reopen on Tuesday, August 18 at 9:00 a.m.

Warm Regards,
Julie Harris

Kindergarten Fun Run is June 4!

The Pathfinder Associated Student Body (ASB) sponsors one fundraiser each year- the annual Fun Run to be held on Thursday, June 4! Kindergarten students will run laps to get exercise while earning money to support student activities. This year our proceeds will go toward a variety of different student activities, including Bug Brag prizes, Field Day activities, recess equipment, and field trips at a lower cost for families. Fun Run donation envelopes were sent home in student backpacks with information on how to collect donations. You may also return donations in another envelope with your student's name, teacher name, and marked "FUN RUN". This year, donations may be made using a credit/debit card at the link below (fees may apply), cash, or check payable to Pathfinder Kindergarten Center. No door-to-door sales, please. On June 4, please make sure your kindergarten student arrives to school with:
  • Shoes with socks appropriate for running (no flip flops or sandals, please)
  • Clothes appropriate for running
If you'd like to come cheer on the kids, below is the pod schedule for June 4. You don't need to check in at the office, you can report directly to the sand field adjacent to the Pathfinder front entrance and sign in at the table. Ask for a sign to hold as you encourage all our runners! Our parking lot will be quite full, and parking might be limited during the event.
  • Ladybug & Caterpillar: 1:30-1:55 p.m.
  • Bumblebee & Grasshopper + Berggren & Soeur-Wollen's class: 2:10-2:35 p.m.
Thank you for your support of Pathfinder students! Donations of any amount are appreciated and are deductible as charitable contributions.

Book Up Summer

Pathfinder is participating in a program called Book Up Summer with Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program.  This week, your child will be able to choose 12 books from a special book fair held at school. The books are totally free and theirs to keep and enjoy! The books will be sent home with your child on the last day of school.

Did you know that reading books, any books, over the summer helps kids remember what they learned in school? And that it helps them learn new skills more quickly when they come back to school in the fall? The best way to keep kids interested in reading is to make sure they have books they enjoy at home. That’s what Book Up Summer is here to do
How you can help:
Ask your child to tell you about each book after they read it. For example:
a. What was the book about?
b. Who was your favorite character?
c. Does this book remind you of others we’ve read?
d. If you could write a different ending, what would it be?

One of the ways to encourage your child to read is to show an interest in what they chose and about the stories. Bring books with you when you head out for summer activities. Take turns reading to each other—brothers, sisters, and you!  The students are having a great time picking out their books. Enjoy reading them together this summer!

Pathfinder Yearbooks

Students who pre-ordered a yearbook will receive their copy on Tuesday, June 16.

If your child was not enrolled when yearbook orders were taken or if you changed your mind and would like to purchase one now, a limited number of extra copies are available in the Pathfinder office for purchase for $17.00 each; first come, first served (CASH ONLY and exact change or online using the QR code below).
If you are unsure if you pre-ordered a yearbook, you may find out by calling the Pathfinder office.

Notes from Nurse Maggie

Medication- If your student has medications at school, please arrange for them to be picked up on the last day of school. You will need an adult to pick them up and sign them out. All medication that is not picked up will be disposed of per WA State Law.
Borrowed Clothing- Please return any clothing that was borrowed from the nurse's office before the last day of school.
Donate Clothing- We are low on pants for boys and girls. If your child has outgrown any pants, please consider donating them to the Pathfinder health room clothing closet.

Thank you and have a wonderful summer break, full of fun and good health!

Field Day Reminder

Preschool Field Day-June 15
Kindergarten Field Day- June 16

Students will enjoy a variety of outdoor games and activities. Please be sure students are dressed for active play (t-shirts and shorts, if the weather is nice) and that they wear socks and "sneaker" type shoes instead of sandals or flip flops. Field Day times for kindergarten pods are as follows:

10:30-11:30 a.m.- Grasshopper & Caterpillar
1:30-2:30 p.m.- Ladybug & Bumblebee

Thank You Volunteers!

Many thanks to each of you who found time to volunteer at Pathfinder this school year! Whether you were able to help with one special activity or if you were a regular volunteer, you made a positive difference for kids. We so appreciate and thank you for your time and effort.

Please check the lost and found for missing jackets, gloves, backpacks, lunch boxes, and much more. All unclaimed items will be donated to a charitable organization after school is out in June.

How to Support Beginning Readers at Home

·        Encourage your child to use his/her finger to point to each word.
·        Read a sentence and have your child repeat it.
·        Take turns reading a sentence or a page each.
·        Talk about the story as you read it.
·        Ask who, what if, where, why, and how questions.
·        Ask the following questions.
What does this story remind you of? How do you think this character feels? Why?
·        Don’t be afraid to read the same book again! Repeated reading helps build reading fluency!

Questions to ask your emergent reader:
·        Is this fiction or nonfiction, and how do you know?
·        How did this story remind you of something from your own life?
·        Answer why, how, and what if questions.
·        Where and when did this story take place?
·        Tell 3 things about the main character. Compare him/her to others.

For fiction books:
Retell the story in order.
What was the problem and how was it solved?
What is the most important part of the story? Why?
What was your favorite part? Why?

For nonfictions books:
What questions do you have?
Tell the main idea and important supporting details.
What did the author do to make the material clear or interesting?
