Back-2-School Fair Friday

Free backpacks and school supplies available for District students!

Mukilteo School District invites families to attend the 5th Annual Back-2-School Fair, happening Friday, August 22 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Mariner High School. This free event brings together more than 50 community partners to help students start the school year strong. No ID or insurance information is required to participate.

"When we come together as a community to offer free resources before school starts, we’re telling every student: you matter, you belong, and we believe in your potential. It’s more than preparation, it’s a promise that students will be starting the school year at Mukilteo School District wrapped in support,” said Mary Williams, event organizer and Director of Equity and Family and Community Partnerships.

Students will have access to free heart screenings, free haircut vouchers, free immunizations, discounts, and more at the event.

Williams says that one of the most popular stops at the Fair every year is the free backpacks and school supplies area.

“This year, thanks to a generous donation from Foundry10, we expect to have enough backpacks for every District student who attends,” she adds. “Families won’t need to rush to get there early — there should be plenty to go around.”

School buses will be on hand to provide free, convenient transportation to and from the event. View shuttle routes and schedules here.

Riders must be at least four years old. Strollers and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on the buses.

Mukilteo Elementary School Classroom Building Complete

A modern school building with diverse architectural elements and a playground.

Phase 1 complete: ten new classrooms, playground, and more!

This fall, students at Mukilteo Elementary will return to school with a brand-new classroom building featuring ten modern classrooms, restrooms, and a new accessible playground. For the first time on campus, classrooms include full-size windows, bringing natural light into learning spaces that were previously dark.

Funded by voter-approved bonds in 2020, the project was completed on time and on budget despite rising construction costs. This project is phase 1 of a phased approach to facility improvements, allowing the district to manage debt responsibly and respond to community feedback before moving forward with future phases.

Phase 1 complete: new gyms, fitness room, support spaces and more!

When doors open at Explorer Middle School this fall, students will return to a new physical education center. Phase 1 of a total replacement of the decades-old school campus is now complete, bringing major upgrades to both student and community spaces. Funded by voter-approved bonds in 2020, the project was delivered on time and within budget, despite rising construction costs.

The centerpiece of this phase is a brand-new, stand-alone building that includes a full-size gymnasium, auxiliary gym, fitness room, and support spaces designed to enhance physical education and wellness. The football field and track have also been completely replaced, now featuring synthetic turf and a rubberized track for safer, more durable use. Additional site improvements include new walkways, landscaping, and updated utilities, all contributing to a more welcoming and functional campus.

These spaces aren’t just for students during the school day—they’re also available for scheduled community use, expanding access and strengthening connections between families and the school. The upgraded facilities reflect our commitment to equity, inclusion, and long-term sustainability.

By phasing these large school projects over multiple phases, the district is able to manage its debt load more responsibly. This approach also allows the district to manage large-scale projects while continuing to operate the school, and it provides greater capacity to complete more work at schools across the district, bringing more incremental benefit to our entire community.
